A major boost to India’s defense arsenal has been approved by the United States, greenlighting a $93 million deal to supply Javelin missiles and Excalibur tactical projectiles. This significant procurement underscores the strengthening defense ties between the two nations.

The approved sale is divided into two key components. The first, focused on the Javelin missile system, is valued at $45.7 million and includes numerous missile rounds, a test missile, and advanced command launch units. The second part of the deal, priced at $47.1 million, will see India receive 216 M982A1 Excalibur tactical projectiles and accompanying equipment, enhancing its precision strike capabilities.

U.S. officials stated that this proposed sale aligns with American foreign policy and national security goals, reinforcing the strategic partnership with India. This collaboration is seen as crucial for maintaining political stability and security in the vital Indo-Pacific and South Asian regions.

The Javelin system is a portable, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile system celebrated for its effectiveness against armored vehicles and fortified targets. The Excalibur projectiles are known for their precision-guided accuracy in diverse combat scenarios.

This agreement is a testament to India’s continuous efforts to equip its forces with cutting-edge technology to meet evolving security challenges.
