A crucial meeting occurred today between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, setting the stage for the SCO Summit. The meeting was aimed at underlining the improving dynamics between the two nations.

Ajit Doval remarked on the upward trend in the relationship, highlighting the peaceful situation along the borders. He emphasized the substantive bilateral engagements and recognized the positive impact of the leaders’ meeting in Kazan last October. Doval expressed optimism for the upcoming Special Representative Level Talks and their significance in the context of the SCO Summit.

Wang Yi expressed his contentment at meeting in New Delhi to discuss the boundary question, underscoring that past challenges were not in the best interests of the two countries. He acknowledged the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi in Kazan as a crucial turning point, setting the path for the development of bilateral relations and contributing to resolving the boundary question.

This meeting is an indication of both countries’ desire to capitalize on recent progress and continue their dialogue. The meeting follows crucial talks between India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Wang on Monday in which Jaishankar said the two countries are now ready to move forward after “difficult times”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Wang Yi at his official residence later today. This visit is Wang’s first to India in three years, suggesting a possible improvement in relations.
