Sweden’s Ambassador Jan Thesleff has emerged as a vocal advocate for India’s international stature, declaring that its global engagements enhance worldwide welfare. This comes hot on the heels of the groundbreaking India-EU free trade pact, dubbed the mother of all agreements.

Thesleff, with extensive experience in India, lauded PM Modi’s initiatives that shone at the G20. ‘India is claiming its rightful spot, and that’s great for everyone,’ he told media, eyeing the upcoming AI summit as another milestone.

In turbulent times marked by tariff battles, the FTA exemplifies constructive dialogue. ‘We’re proving rules-based order works, with agreed tariffs and reliability,’ Thesleff said, positioning India as Sweden’s steadfast ally against uncertainty.

Addressing UN reforms, he supported India’s permanent Security Council membership. ‘A reformed UN needs India,’ he asserted. On diversifying supply chains post-globalization shocks, he noted the FTA’s role in securing routes via India’s manufacturing prowess, home to 400 Swedish enterprises.

India’s demographic dividend drew special mention. ‘The creativity and innovation from Indian youth are unmatched,’ Thesleff said, as Sweden ramps up attraction for advanced degree seekers in green tech and beyond.

The ambassador’s perspective underscores India’s transition from regional player to global architect, fostering stability through trade, talent, and diplomacy.
