The southwest monsoon, fueled by a system in the Bay of Bengal, is causing widespread rainfall across India. Delhi is set to welcome the monsoon, promising respite from the sweltering heat. The city is under a yellow alert, with light to moderate rain expected and temperatures ranging from 35 to 27 degrees Celsius. This rainfall is anticipated to continue until June 29th, with heavier downpours anticipated in early July.

Northern India, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, is also bracing for rainfall until June 30th. Himachal Pradesh, completely under the monsoon’s influence, has experienced heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for numerous districts in Himachal, warning of severe rainfall. Dharamshala saw a torrential downpour with thunder, leading to power cuts, flooding, and damage to crops.

Authorities have advised tourists and locals to steer clear of riverbeds and areas susceptible to landslides due to the dangers associated with heavy rain. Reduced visibility caused by fog could also present challenges for drivers. The weather forecast points to continued rain in the mountains for the next four days, with a slight weakening of the Western Disturbance expected.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are preparing for heavy rainfall through June 27th. Heavy rain is also expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Sikkim until June 28th. Central, eastern, and northeastern India are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next week. The forecast for Northeast India includes light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy to very heavy rainfall in various locations.
