    The Maldives commemorated its 60th Independence Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the esteemed ‘Guest of Honour’ at Republic Square in Malé. President Mohamed Muizzu also participated in the event. Prior to the celebrations, Prime Minister Modi interacted with leaders from diverse political parties in Male, including Vice President Hussain Mohammed Latheef, and discussed the strong ties between the two nations. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between India and the Maldives, built on mutual respect, shared values, and a long history of cultural and economic exchanges. The relationship continues to evolve, strengthened by people-to-people ties and cooperation in various sectors. India remains dedicated to aiding the aspirations of the Maldivian people and collaborating on global initiatives. The discussions also included the recent formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in the 20th Majlis.
