India’s High Commissioner to Namibia, Rahul Shrivastava, confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit will center on enhancing bilateral relations, especially in trade and investment. Key areas of interest for India include importing uranium and exploring opportunities in the oil, gas, and critical minerals sectors in Namibia. The visit will also include discussions on defense cooperation, as Namibia is looking to acquire defense equipment from India, and on capacity-building initiatives. The talks are expected to cover a wide range of issues, including the potential for a ‘Project Cheetah 2’ to increase the cheetah population. Shrivastava highlighted the significance of the long-standing relationship between the two nations, acknowledging India’s early support for Namibia’s independence and emphasizing India’s leadership role in the Global South and the importance of Africa as a strong partner.
