External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hosted Spain’s Jose Manuel Albares in Delhi on Wednesday, forging ahead on a robust bilateral agenda. From zero-tolerance on terrorism to booming trade and innovative tech partnerships, the talks signal a new era of India-Spain solidarity.

Jaishankar kicked off proceedings by noting seismic global changes demanding unified responses. Terrorism, a scourge both countries know too well, demands absolute intolerance worldwide, he stressed.

Bilateral warmth stems from common democratic ethos and multilateral adherence. The 70th anniversary of ties this year paves way for 2026’s dual focus on culture-tourism and AI, blending heritage with forward-looking initiatives.

Sustained high-level interactions mark political progress. Hosting the AI Impact Summit soon, India champions responsible, human-focused AI development— a stance echoing Europe’s priorities.

Economics drive the relationship forward: bilateral trade exceeds $8 billion, with Spanish expertise transforming India’s infra, green energy, and smart cities. Reciprocally, Indian firms energize Spain’s tech and health sectors, eyeing exponential expansion.

Defense milestones loom large, including the ‘Made in India’ C-295’s debut by September, evidencing deepening industrial collaboration.

Cultural synergy thrives bilaterally—Indian wellness practices booming in Spain, Spanish arts gaining traction in India. Tourism, a vital link, will see boosted people flows via enhanced educational and institutional ties.

These discussions not only commemorate history but propel India-Spain relations into a dynamic, terror-resilient future.
