Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his assertion that India plans to stop purchasing oil from Russia by the end of the current year. Trump mentioned having an “absolutely great” conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this subject. This comes days after Trump had claimed that PM Modi had promised him on a call that India would cease its Russian oil imports, a statement subsequently denied by the Ministry of External Affairs in India. “India has told me that they are going to stop buying oil from Russia by the end of the year; I spoke to PM Modi yesterday and they have been absolutely great,” Trump declared. He also reasserted his previous narrative about de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, attributing the alleged truce to the strategic use of tariffs, which he described as “vital” for brokering peace.
