In a heart-wrenching mishap, three lives were lost when a passenger-laden HRTC bus crashed into a deep khadd in Uttarakhand’s Kalsi area. Over 30 commuters were aboard the vehicle heading towards Paonta Sahib from Himachal Pradesh.
The accident unfolded on the perilous Kwanu-Meens road, where the bus skidded off the edge while overtaking a truck. The fragile road crumbled under the weight, propelling the bus into multiple rolls before it came to rest at the gorge bottom.
Alerted by distressed calls from locals, SDRF commandos descended the ravine for a daring rescue. Kalsi police cordoned the area, aiding in extricating trapped victims amid twisted metal.
Fifteen-plus injured individuals, some in critical condition, received urgent medical attention. CM Dhami swiftly coordinated with officials, emphasizing airlift capabilities for the gravely hurt.
Taking to X, the CM shared: “Deeply saddened by the bus accident in Kalsi. Instructions issued for immediate relief; all hospitals alerted. Praying for everyone’s safety.”
This event exposes vulnerabilities in Uttarakhand’s rugged transport network. Frequent landslides and poor edging plague such routes, demanding urgent infrastructure upgrades.
With rescue efforts ongoing, toll updates are awaited. The state government vows comprehensive support to victims’ kin and a detailed accident report to prevent recurrences.
