3 Odisha BJP MLAs suspended for throwing slippers, paper at Speaker podium
Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on Saturday suspended three BJP legislators from attending the continuing Budget Session for allegedly hurling slippers, earphones and papers on the Speaker’s podium.
Calling the suspension, in impact till the session ends on April 6, “undemocratic”, BJP members staged a dharna outdoors the Assembly.
The MLAs have been protesting in opposition to the state authorities’s choice to move the Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill. They maintained that the Bill was handed with none dialogue.
The MLAs have been suspended after Patro examined the video footage of the incident, which came about within the first half of Saturday’s session. None of the supplies had reached the rostrum.
The suspended trio embrace Deputy Leader of Opposition within the Assembly Bishnu Charan Sethi, former state minister Jay Narayan Mishra and Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Charan Majhi. Sethi denied allegations that slippers have been thrown in the direction of the Speaker’s podium.
