On Friday, September 26, Leh police arrested activist Sonam Wangchuk amidst the ongoing unrest in Ladakh. The arrest follows the tragic events where four people lost their lives. Wangchuk faces accusations of serious financial irregularities. Numerous reports highlight concerns regarding his foreign funding, with the government alleging substantial discrepancies within his NGO and associated private institutions. The authorities suspect that Wangchuk utilized a mass movement as a cover to break the law and improperly use foreign funds. The Apex Body Leh has clarified that their statehood protests are peaceful. They have further clarified that the violence that occurred on September 24 was not initiated by the main protest group.
