The annual Amarnath Yatra has commenced, with pilgrims beginning their journey from the Nunwan Pahalgam base camp. The pilgrimage to the revered cave shrine, situated at 3,880 meters in the South Kashmir Himalayas, is underway with significantly increased security protocols following the recent terror attack. Pilgrims can choose between the 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route or the shorter 14-km Baltal route. Despite the recent events, numerous devotees are participating in the yatra, demonstrating their unwavering faith. The authorities have implemented a comprehensive three-tier security system, with a considerable number of security personnel in Pahalgam and along the national highway. This year’s security measures incorporate advanced technology, including AI-based facial recognition, real-time tracking using RFID tags, high-resolution CCTV cameras, and drone surveillance.
