The military has rescued 447 vacationers caught at snow-bound Nathu-La close to the India-China border in Sikkim following a snowstorm, defence officers mentioned on Friday. Defence spokesman Lt. Col. P. Khongsai instructed IANS that troopers in immediate motion rescued the 447 vacationers from the excessive reaches of Nathu La close to the India-China border following sudden heavy snowfall on Thursday.
He mentioned that the vacationers in 155 autos have been caught on the Nathu La-Gangtok highway following a extreme snowstorm and sub-zero temperatures.
“The tourists were stranded over a 15 km stretch and started skidding after the snowstorm. The travellers were rescued in army vehicles and accommodated inside the barracks of the 17-Mile military camp. All tourists were provided accommodation while 26 had to be hospitalised after they required critical medical support. There were no major injuries or casualties,” the defence official mentioned.
Khongsai mentioned that the courageous hearts of the Indian Army despite very antagonistic climate and hostile circumstances rescued vacationers and supplied lodging, meals and medical help.
Nathu La (that means “listening ears”), in East Sikkim district, is without doubt one of the highest motorable roads on the earth. It is a mountain cross within the Himalayan peaks located on the Indo-Tibetan border 14,450 toes above sea degree.
