The importance of the Zojila Pass has increased due to the Indo-China border tension and this tunnel will be very important for the Indian Army from a strategic point of view, because it will allow the movement of military forces throughout the year.

At present, there is a danger of terrorist activities in Ladakh, Gilgit and Baltistan region, the construction of this tunnel will help in tightening the terrorists network. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the First Blast on October 15 at 11 am. A 6-year deadline has been fixed for the construction of this tunnel. The cost of this tunnel was being around 8000 crores, which has now been reduced to around 4400 crores.

Earlier there were plans to build two separate tunnels, but to reduce its growing budget, a single large tunnel would be built, in which vehicles would pass through two-way lanes. No escape tunnel will be created. Emergency Le Bai will be built in 750 meters on both sides. Manual emergency fire alarm push buttons will be placed in the tunnel for emergencies. Portable fireproofing devices will also be installed. Telephone will also be provided inside the tunnel so that in case of emergency, it can be contacted. Adequate lighting will also be provided inside the tunnel. CCTV cameras will be installed on the walls. The construction of this tunnel will strengthen the social, cultural and economic status of the region. People will also be able to visit Ladakh during the winter season, which will give a boost to the tourism industry. At this time, only 6 months in a year can travel between Srinagar and Leh, after the tunnel is built, it will be able to travel through the year.

Right now it takes three hours to cross the Zojila pass, but with the construction of this tunnel, this distance will be covered in just 15 minutes. This will save both time and fuel. The construction of tunnel will increase employment opportunities for the local youth.
