Assam: Five members of Bihu workforce killed as automobile turns turtle

GUWAHATI: At least 5 members of a Bihu workforce, together with 4 youngsters, have been killed and 5 others injured as a automobile carrying them turned turtle in Assam’s Biswanath district, police stated on Sunday.

The accident befell close to Gohpur when the Bihu members have been returning house round midnight after their efficiency.

The driver misplaced management over the automobile and it overturned, an officer stated.

Five workforce members, together with three ladies, have been killed within the accident, he stated.

The deceased have been recognized as Sanjay Basumatary (17), Koliman Basumatary (21), Bornali Boro (15), Budhimoti Boro (14) and Radhika Daimary (15).

“Five others have been injured and they’re present process therapy in several hospitals.

Prima facie, over-speeding appears to be the reason for the accident, however that may be confirmed solely after investigation,” he stated.

The driver of the automobile, which was carrying round 20 individuals, has fled the spot and a manhunt has been launched to nab him, the officer stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the deaths.

“I am saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident in Biswanath district of Assam. Condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest: PM @narendramodi,” the prime minister tweeted.

Sarma stated in a Twitter put up, “The victims were on their way home from a Bihu function. Five injured have been shifted to Gohpur Civil Hospital & Catholic Hospital at Borgang. Have asked the administration to monitor the situation and provide the injured all necessary help. I pray for their speedy recovery.”
