Bihar policeman crushed to demise in Bengal; 3 held

A police officer from Bihar was Saturday crushed to demise by a mob in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district.
Kishanganj police station in-charge Ashwini Kumar, 52, alongside along with his staff of eight policemen and two informers, was within the district’s Pantapara village to search for a gang of motorbike thieves that operated in neighbouring Bihar, the Purnea Police mentioned.
At 3 am on Saturday, the police staff discovered a stolen motorbike close to the residence of 1 Firoz Alam, following which the SHO started questioning some residents. Soon, a crowd gathered within the space and attacked the police staff. While Kumar’s subordinates escaped in a police automobile, the SHO stayed again to assist the informers.

The mob beat the police officer to demise. Three individuals, together with Firoz Alam, have been arrested over the episode.
Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish instructed The Indian Express: “We had asked for asistance from the West Bengal Police but they refused to help us, citing election engagements. As per CrPC provisions, a police team can conduct raids in jurisdiction of another police station… Had they helped us, our officer would have been saved. We had been carrying out a verification process after locating a stolen bike.”
The Kishanganj SP added that some villagers had begun elevating an alarm about thieves to draw a crowd though the policemen have been in full uniform.
“What happened shows how the morale of criminals is high there,” mentioned the SP, including that he had requested Islampur (police district of Uttar Dinajpur) SP to take motion towards the Bengal policemen for his or her “negligience” of responsibility in not aiding the Kishanganj police staff.
Senior police officers from Bihar and Bengal arrived on the village later within the day.
Uttar Dinajpur District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Meena mentioned: “The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. A magisterial inquiry will be conducted.”
According to the police, the prime accused, Firoz Alam, was arrested together with one Abujar Alam (25) and his mom Sahinur Khatun (55).
