Intense rainfall has caused widespread chaos and disruption in various districts of Bihar. The weather department had previously issued a warning about continuous rainfall in the state, including Patna, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. This extreme weather has resulted in significant waterlogging, affecting both rural and urban areas.
The severe weather conditions have affected various services including road, rail, and air travel. Schools and colleges in Patna and other districts are closed due to the adverse conditions. Schools in Chhapra, Siwan, Motihari and Gopalganj have also been shut down. Many low-lying regions of Patna are flooded, and the impact of the rains on agricultural lands is evident throughout the state.
Power supply has been shut down in both rural and urban areas. A flight from Delhi to Patna had to be diverted to Varanasi. Gopalganj district recorded the highest rainfall at 49.5 millimeters, followed by Gaya with 28 millimeters and Aurangabad with 27.6 millimeters.
The Meteorological Department has warned that strong winds with speeds between 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are expected in several areas. A red alert has been issued for Vaishali, Darbhanga, and Madhubani districts, where rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters is anticipated, along with the risk of lightning.
