CM Samrat Chaudhary Conducts Aerial Survey of Bhagalpur Bridge Site
1 min readIn the wake of the Vikramshila Setu collapse, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Deputy CM Vijay Chaudhary conducted an extensive aerial survey of the damaged site in Bhagalpur. The Chief Minister took several rounds in a helicopter to assess the extent of the damage to the spans between pillars 4 and 5. Following the survey, the CM held high-level discussions with the Union Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, to expedite the involvement of the Indian Army in restoration efforts. The administration has prioritized the installation of a temporary steel-plated path to allow light vehicles to pass, while the primary focus remains on assessing the safety of the remaining structure.
Addressing the media, officials stated that the government is committed to restoring connectivity to the Seemanchal region as quickly as possible. The Army’s specialized engineering units have already taken charge at the site, working alongside the bridge construction corporation to stabilize the area. To alleviate the immediate suffering of the public, free boat services have been initiated at the ghats to help people cross the river. However, the long queues and the risks associated with boat travel in the vast Ganges have added to the public’s distress. The government is also pushing for the accelerated construction of the parallel 4-lane bridge, which is currently being built at a cost of over 1,100 crore to provide a permanent solution to the traffic woes of eastern Bihar.
