In Sasaram, Bihar, during an India गठबंधन (Alliance) rally, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a strong critique of the BJP and the RSS. He said that the BJP’s presence in power jeopardizes the Constitution, and the rights and freedom of citizens are in danger. He accused the RSS of opposing India’s independence. Kharge contrasted PM Modi’s statements on RSS’s service with the reality that RSS opposed the freedom movement and was involved in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He accused the RSS of seeking favors from the British. He stated that the right to vote is enshrined in the Constitution. He noted the contributions of Nehru and Ambedkar in the process. He raised the issue of removal of 65 lakh voters’ names from the voter list in Bihar. He accused the BJP of electoral malpractices. He also pointed out that the Supreme Court’s directives were overlooked in the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner. Kharge announced the commencement of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ from Sasaram, covering 1,300 km over 16 days, passing through 20 districts, and concluding at Gandhi Maidan on September 1.
