In a move to support women’s empowerment and economic independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. During the launch, conducted via video conferencing, Rs 10,000 was directly transferred to each of the 75 lakh women beneficiaries, totaling Rs 7,500 crore. This initiative aims to encourage self-employment and improve the livelihoods of women across Bihar. The Prime Minister expressed his joy in being involved in the program during the Navratri period and recognized the significant participation of 75 lakh women. The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is designed by the Bihar government to facilitate women’s self-reliance by offering opportunities for self-employment and other livelihood activities. Financial aid is provided to one woman from each family in the state to enable them to start their own ventures. Each beneficiary will receive an initial sum of Rs. 10,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer, with the possibility of further funding up to Rs. 2 lakh. These funds can be utilized in various sectors selected by the beneficiaries, including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and small-scale enterprises. The initiative also emphasizes community support, with training provided by Self Help Groups. Additionally, Gramin Haat-Bazaars will be developed to assist in selling the women’s products. The launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is expected to be a significant event across different administrative levels, with over 1 crore women participating.
