West Bengal’s political circles are abuzz with speculation as BJP prepares to declare its single nominee for the Rajya Sabha by March’s opening days. The vacancy of five seats by April’s end has TMC favorites to sweep four, thanks to their legislative muscle, while BJP targets the fifth.
Internal party whispers point to a trio of aspirants dominating the talks. Mithun Chakraborty, the iconic film star who embraced BJP colors, is a prime choice. Locket Chatterjee, blending her acting fame with parliamentary experience, is another hot pick. Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, the Balurghat MLA with heavyweight economic credentials, completes the list.
Adding fuel to the fire, BJP’s Dilip Ghosh tore into Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, labeling it a hotbed of graft. In pointed remarks to the press, he flagged a slew of corruption probes and national security threats involving the state machinery.
‘Bengal harbors massive scams and anti-national plots, with NIA and ED closing in,’ Ghosh charged. He spotlighted Banerjee’s on-site intervention during an ED operation at IPAC, calling it a blatant bid to conceal scandals. ‘Let the courts expedite hearings for truth to prevail,’ he implored.
The BJP leader painted a picture of public exasperation mounting against TMC’s rule. ‘Governance lapses have the masses poised for retribution,’ he declared. With Rajya Sabha nominations looming, BJP’s blend of star power and policy heft aims to challenge TMC’s stronghold, heralding a pivotal chapter in Bengal’s power play.
