Andhra Pradesh’s battle against graft intensified with the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s stunning catch of two police personnel pocketing ₹3 lakh in bribes. The red-handed arrests in YSR Kadapa district at a rural police outpost have ignited outrage and calls for accountability.
Identified as Pulivendula Rural Circle Inspector NV Ramana and Simhadripuram Sub-Inspector Dasari Anil Kumar, the officers allegedly extorted the sum from a suspect in chain-snatching rackets. The criminal had acquired a bike from a Kashmir-based theft ring that repurposed stolen vehicles with fake plates, deploying it for audacious gold jewelry thefts valued at ₹15 lakh.
Once the accused’s trail was mapped, the policemen upped the ante to ₹4 lakh for dropping charges. Having forked over part of it previously, the pressure for the rest led him straight to the ACB helpline. Bureau operatives then masterminded the sting, positioning the complainant to pass the cash at the station.
Instantly, the trap sprung—SI Dasari was nabbed mid-transaction, with CI Ramana collared in connection. Detailed scrutiny follows to dismantle any wider network.
The spree continued elsewhere: Srikakulam’s Mandal Education Officer Kurmana Apparao and operator Uppada Kameswara Rao grabbed ₹10,000 from an ex-teacher. In Vizianagaram, a Village Revenue Officer met the same fate.
Under DG Atul Singh, the ACB is supercharging its informant grid to target departmental sleaze. Last year’s 115 cases break down to 69 traps, eight illicit wealth hunts, seven misconduct suits, 19 probes, and 12 raids— a robust framework fortifying anti-bribery measures and public faith.
