A seismic shift in North Indian politics unfolded Sunday as KC Tyagi, a towering figure from Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), pledged allegiance to Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in Delhi. Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary personally oversaw Tyagi’s entry at Mavalankar Hall, alongside inducting former Uttar Pradesh minister Ashok Yadav.

Chaudhary took to X to celebrate: ‘Proud to welcome veteran leader and former MP KC Tyagi, and ex-minister Ashok Yadav to RLD. Their participation in today’s solemn event fortifies our resolve for public welfare.’ This infusion promises to supercharge RLD’s ambitions.

Tyagi’s JD(U) saga began with its 2003 formation via Samata-Janata Dal merger, where he was general secretary to George Fernandes. His collaborations with Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar spanned years, encompassing roles as chief general secretary, spokesperson, and advisor—making him a Nitish Kumar insider.

Post Nitish’s Rajya Sabha win, Tyagi quietly exited by skipping membership renewal. The move signals personal and strategic divergences in Bihar’s ever-shifting alliances.

RLD’s gain is strategic. Jayant Chaudhary, navigating his party’s NDA integration, acquires Tyagi’s vast network and acumen, vital for UP’s agrarian politics and beyond. As elections loom, this alliance could recalibrate power equations, empowering RLD in coalition negotiations and voter mobilization efforts across the heartland.
