Lucknow witnessed a fresh political showdown on Friday when Mayawati, the BSP president, tore into SP spokesperson Rajkumar Bhati’s inflammatory remarks on the Brahmin community. Holding Akhilesh Yadav responsible, she demanded he step up and apologize to restore calm.

In a detailed X post, Mayawati decried the ‘vulgar and offensive’ statements that have provoked intense backlash everywhere. With a FIR already filed, the saga persists, fueled by SP’s ‘casteist leadership’ maintaining a stoic silence, which she said is worsening the volatile atmosphere.

The BSP chief underscored the profound insult to Brahmin honor, calling for Yadav’s prompt intervention and atonement. This affair, she said, confirms SP’s unrepentant caste animosities, now more virulent against Brahmins alongside other marginalized groups.

Mayawati highlighted simmering Brahmin frustration with the state government’s policies, a sentiment impossible to ignore. BSP’s legacy, she proudly noted, includes genuine empowerment for Brahmins through dignified roles in party and administration, ensuring lasting welfare for every section of society.

The controversy stemmed from Bhati’s contentious utterances, met with swift outrage from various quarters urging strict measures. Bhati responded with an apology, regretting any unintended hurt. Mayawati’s rebuttal, however, elevates the discourse, spotlighting caste fault lines in Uttar Pradesh’s charged political landscape.
