Monday’s Bihar Legislative Council descended into mayhem as opposition forces protested vehemently against the state’s law and order failures during the ongoing budget session. Spearheaded by Rabri Devi, legislators spotlighted heinous acts, including a six-year-old’s rape and killing in Darbhanga, while baying for CM Nitish Kumar’s resignation.
Sparks flew in a direct verbal duel between Rabri and Nitish. After RJD MLC Sunil Singh’s intervention, she proclaimed no safe haven for girls in Bihar, intensifying the slogan-shouting frenzy.
CM Kumar hit back forcefully from his perch: ‘Those who accomplished zilch in their rule now lecture us? Our era sees real work for women and prompt justice for offenders. Bihar surges ahead—you did nothing for 15 years.’ Aiming at the agitators, he added sternly, ‘Action must be initiated against these elements. This isn’t democracy.’
Pre-session protests in the complex amplified the discord, with Rabri accusing the government of minority and Dalit oppression. To media, she insisted: ‘Resign, Nitish and Samrat Chaudhary. Protect our poor daughters from violence.’
The ruckus highlights simmering frustrations over crime rates, positioning law enforcement as a pivotal election flashpoint. With Bihar’s assembly gearing for more debates, Nitish’s retorts signal no backing down.
