Three coal mine workers, including two women, sustained injuries following an explosion at an open cast mine in Manendragarh, Chhattisgarh, on Monday. The incident happened at the SECL’s Chirmiri facility during preparations for a planned blasting sequence. Reports suggest the blast occurred unexpectedly while a team of workers was deploying explosives. The sudden detonation caused an airborne dispersal of rock fragments, leading to the injuries. The three affected individuals were promptly transported to the nearby SECL hospital in Kurasia for medical care. They are reported to be in a stable condition and are expected to be discharged shortly. An official inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the root cause, with early indications suggesting a possible technical malfunction. The company is working with local authorities to review safety protocols and ensure such incidents are averted in the future. Mining activities at the site have been temporarily suspended.
