An explosion at an open cast coal mine operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district has led to injuries for three workers, two of whom are women. The blast happened on Monday afternoon at the Chirmiri mine while a team was preparing explosives for a scheduled detonation. The sudden explosion caused materials to be ejected, striking the workers. All three sustained minor injuries and were promptly transported to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia for medical attention. Their health status is stable, and they are expected to make a full recovery soon. The cause of the unexpected detonation is currently under investigation. Preliminary assessments point towards a possible technical malfunction, but a formal inquiry is being conducted to determine the definitive reasons. This includes examining the condition of equipment, adherence to safety procedures, and any potential human errors. The mine’s operations have been temporarily suspended pending safety checks and the outcome of the investigation.
