Security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district have successfully eliminated 18 Naxalites in a major encounter that transpired in the forested terrain along the Bijapur-Dantewada district boundaries. The operation, launched following intelligence inputs, led to a significant exchange of fire. Authorities confirmed the recovery of a comprehensive arsenal from the neutralized militants, featuring both INSAS and AK-47 firearms. A prominent figure among the deceased has been identified as Modiyam Vella, a commander associated with the PLGA, who was reportedly involved in the planning and execution of several attacks, including a fatal ambush in 2020. A substantial reward was previously announced for information leading to his apprehension. While the operation dealt a heavy blow to Naxalite activities, the security forces mourn the loss of three DRG personnel, with two others receiving medical attention for their injuries. This incident contributes to the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalism across the state.
