Chhattisgarh is celebrating its Silver Jubilee, and under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state is embracing a new era of development. The state is transitioning from being known mainly for its mineral and forest resources to becoming a leader in the green energy revolution, particularly in solar energy. The ‘Solar Energy to Prosperity’ initiative, combined with the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana and state government subsidies, provides an opportunity for energy independence. The Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana focuses on providing clean and free energy by installing solar panels on rooftops. Chhattisgarh’s government has enhanced the initiative, creating a ‘double engine, double guarantee’ for consumers. This enables consumers to lower their electricity bills while potentially generating income by selling excess electricity. The government’s double subsidy is a significant benefit. While the central government offered up to 60% subsidy on solar panel installation, the Chhattisgarh government is also offering additional financial support. The Sai government is facilitating loans with a 6.5% interest rate over 10 years. The EMIs are designed to be lower than current electricity bills, fostering long-term self-reliance. Solar energy generates new income streams. Excess energy produced can be sold back to discoms. A 2kW or higher capacity solar plant can produce over 200 units of electricity monthly for 25 years, making the scheme’s benefits higher than the half-electricity scheme. Consumers in Chhattisgarh are becoming energy producers and sellers. The scheme offers 20-25 years of free, reliable energy and creates opportunities to generate additional income through the sale of excess electricity. Solar panels also promote a green lifestyle. The half-electricity bill scheme will benefit the poor. Consumption up to 100 units will receive a 50% discount. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai aims to implement solar panels on every home within the next five years. He hopes to make Chhattisgarh a model for green energy for the entire nation. The scheme is transforming lives in rural and urban areas. Farmers are able to generate additional income. Rural industries can be powered by solar energy. In urban areas, electricity bills are decreasing and collective solar energy projects are being established. Pollution is being reduced. Employment is being generated in solar panel manufacturing, installation, and maintenance. The state’s reliance on coal-based electricity will decrease. It will help safeguard the environment for future generations. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has transformed the initiative into a public movement to help every household achieve energy self-sufficiency. The aim is to make Chhattisgarh a leader in solar energy.
