This decision overturned the Family Court’s earlier refusal to grant the divorce. The husband’s petition detailed how his wife’s attitude shifted after she earned a PhD and became a school principal. The court noted that the wife had turned their daughter against her husband, left the marital home, and abandoned her son, actions which, along with her verbal abuse, indicated mental cruelty. The High Court concluded that the wife’s actions violated Hindu Marriage Act provisions and granted the divorce.
