Guns Left, Tractor Steering Wheel Held: A New Beginning for Surrendered Naxalites in Narayanpur

Those who never touched a bicycle are now learning to drive and repair tractors
40 rehabilitated individuals joined the mainstream of democracy
Raipur, May 18, 2026/
Narayanpur district’s Livelihood College (Rehabilitation Center) is giving new life today to hands that once strayed and took up guns. Through a unique initiative by the district administration, surrendered Naxalites are not only returning to the mainstream of society but are also rapidly moving towards leading a dignified and self-reliant life.
‘New Identity’ Received Through Voter ID Card
The administration has taken concrete steps to connect rehabilitated individuals with government services and the democratic process. In this series, new Voter ID cards have been made and distributed to 8 rehabilitated individuals. Similarly, online registration for 25 people has been completed. To participate in the biggest festival of democracy, 40 people have been made to fill Form-6.
“Never Rode a Bicycle, Now Learning to Drive a Tractor”
Recently, the Collector made a surprise inspection of the rehabilitation center. During this, 40 surrendered Naxalites residing there expressed a special wish to him. They wanted to learn to drive tractors as well as receive training in their repair and maintenance. This demand was both interesting and challenging because many of them were individuals who had never even ridden a bicycle in their lives.
Sensing the sensitivity of this demand and their enthusiasm, the Collector took immediate action without any delay. Consequently, the tractor training program started at the Livelihood College from Monday itself.
A New Chapter of Change
Now, all these rehabilitated individuals are regularly learning the intricacies of driving tractors. In the training, along with driving, they are also being taught technical knowledge of tractors and repair skills. This training is not just a skill development program, but it is going to become a strong source of livelihood for these families.
From the Shadow of Fear to the Sunshine of Hope
Today, the faces of the residents of this rehabilitation center in Narayanpur clearly show confidence and contentment for the future, replacing the instability and fear of the past. By benefiting from the welfare schemes of the state government, these people are now ready to contribute to the development of the country like ordinary citizens.
This center in Narayanpur is no longer just a shelter, but has become the biggest symbol of transformation, hope, and a new beginning.
