In Kanker district, Chhattisgarh, the administration has initiated disciplinary measures against multiple officials for neglecting their duties related to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Three panchayat secretaries have been suspended, two have had their salaries stopped, and six others have been served notices. The District Panchayat CEO, Hares Mandavi, conducted a review of the housing project’s progress, focusing on the timely completion of the construction work. The review highlighted the importance of providing construction materials to beneficiaries and motivating them to complete their houses on time. Moreover, the CEO instructed officials to facilitate the enrollment of more youths in masonry training programs. The actions were taken after it was found that the construction was not progressing at the desired pace in certain areas. The PM Awas Yojana in the district has seen a total of 29,207 houses approved between 2016 and 2024, with 26,643 completed. The district has set a target of 37,932 houses for 2024-25, with 30,103 already approved and construction underway. Beneficiaries receive Rs 1.20 lakh in three installments via DBT, directly into their accounts.
