Kerala Monsoon Arrival Near; Severe Heat Warnings in North India

Meteorological conditions in India are shifting rapidly as the South-West Monsoon prepares to make landfall in Kerala while a severe heatwave tightens its grip on North India. The IMD has projected that the monsoon will reach the Kerala coast by May 26, marking a timely start to the rainy season. This development comes as favorable winds align over the Arabian Sea. However, the immediate concern for millions in the North remains the soaring temperatures. In Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh, the mercury recently hit 46.3 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is expected to provide some relief in the eastern belt, particularly in Bihar and West Bengal, which are likely to experience thunderstorms. In contrast, the Northeastern states are preparing for a deluge with heavy rainfall warnings issued for Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
