An elderly resident of Raipur, identified as Rajkumar Gupta (70), died tragically in a house fire on Saturday. The incident occurred in the Aamnaaka police station area. A room heater, turned on to ward off the cold, is believed to have caused a short circuit, igniting the fire around 8 AM. The man’s son had locked the house from the outside before leaving for his duty, following his father’s request. Neighbors heard the elderly man’s cries for help but were unable to breach the locked main gate, rendering them helpless spectators. The fire department’s response time proved insufficient. The body has been retrieved by police and sent for post-mortem.
