An unexpected explosion at SECL’s Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh region has injured three workers, including two females. The incident occurred on Monday during preparations for a routine blasting activity. A team was placing explosives when the blast erupted prematurely, sending rock fragments flying and causing injuries. The affected workers received immediate medical attention at the SECL hospital in Kurasia and are recovering well. While a technical fault is suspected, a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause, which could also include procedural issues or human error. The mining site has been temporarily closed for safety checks and reassessment of protocols to prevent future occurrences.
