In Sukma, Chhattisgarh, a Maoist attack using an IED led to the death of ASP Akash Rao Giripunje and caused injuries to several other police personnel. The blast took place near Dondra village. Police were on patrol in response to the Maoist’s call for a bandh. The incident happened between 9 am and 10 am. The ASP succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Konta Hospital. Search operations have been ramped up in the area following the attack. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra expressed sadness over the ASP’s death, highlighting his bravery. The IED blast indicates a new level of aggression by the Naxals against the security forces. Previous incidents include a major Maoist attack in Bijapur district in January 2025, where nine people were killed. The security forces are continuing to fight against the Naxals, however the Maoists have been trying to launch major attacks on them.
