The Chhattisgarh government, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is launching the Gautham Yojana to bolster the rural economy and provide new impetus to livestock conservation. This initiative is designed to improve animal welfare, promote better breeds, and create jobs through various means, including organic farming and cow-based businesses. The Gautham Yojana is designed to support and care for abandoned and stray cattle. It will also ensure a stable income for herders and cow-servants, helping rural communities achieve economic independence. The plan has been approved by the Finance and Livestock Development Department. The Gautham Yojana has a wide range of objectives, including conserving and improving the quality of bovine animals using scientific methods. It will also promote the use of cow-derived products, and encourage fodder programs. Additionally, it will establish training centers and help create jobs for villagers. The scheme also aims to prevent crop damage and accidents that could harm animals or people. A key aspect of the plan is to protect animals seized during smuggling or found as strays. The state has already taken action to stop illegal animal trafficking, with many cattle seizures at borders. The Gautham Yojana will provide shelter for these animals, with each center capable of housing up to 200 animals. The Gautham Yojana will provide herders with a monthly salary of Rs 10,916 and cow-servants with Rs 13,126. In addition, money will be provided each day to buy food for the animals. Gautham centers that perform the best will get Rs 10 per animal each day in the first year, Rs 20 in the second year, Rs 30 in the third year, and Rs 35 in the fourth year.
