An alarming explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district has led to injuries for three mine workers, two of whom are female. The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon as a crew of seven to eight workers was setting up explosives for a routine blasting procedure. The blast occurred unexpectedly during this preparation phase, causing rocks and debris to be propelled outwards, affecting personnel and vehicles in the area. The injured were quickly transported to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia, Chirmiri, where they are receiving care and are reported to be in stable condition. Initial indications suggest that a technical issue might have precipitated the premature detonation. An official investigation has been launched to meticulously determine the root cause of the accident, considering all potential factors. The mining site has been secured, and operations are suspended pending a thorough safety review.
