Tragedy struck Indira Market on Station Road in Durg on Saturday morning as a massive fire broke out. The fire, which originated in the Khatri Electronics store and warehouse, quickly spread, engulfing the building up to the second floor. Firefighters, assisted by the ongoing rainfall, worked diligently to bring the fire under control. The fire brigade reported that the situation is now contained, and the extinguishing process is nearing completion. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 AM, resulted in substantial damage, with electronic goods worth lakhs of rupees destroyed. An assessment of the total losses is currently being conducted. Local residents reported that the presence of electrical wiring and other combustible materials in the shop contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Initial investigations suggest that a short circuit may be the cause. This is the second significant fire in the area within the past three days, following a previous incident at a leather shop. Politicians have expressed concerns about the recent fires, questioning the administration and the electricity department. Arun Vora, former Congress MLA, urged the administration to take immediate action and investigate technical faults. BJP MLA Gajendra Yadav pointed out the issue of flammable materials stored in shops, which can accelerate the spread of fire. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties. The administration has launched an investigation and is preparing a detailed report on the cause of the fire.
