Rising engagement failures prompted Chhattisgarh’s Sen society to enforce transformative wedding protocols. Private pre-marital phone calls are now taboo, and the beloved joota chupai custom stands abolished, as decided in a pivotal Balod assembly.
Community chief Santosh Kaushik revealed that informal chats via mobiles were the culprits behind most broken promises. ‘Parents must oversee all talks to prevent misconceptions,’ he emphasized. This affects their 2.25 lakh members, 70% of whom run salons across the state.
Umesh Kumar Sen elaborated on the shoe ban: such pranks often ignite disputes, marring celebrations. The reforms extend to modest engagements with limited invitees, precise astrological wedding slots, sustainable serving practices, and strict ostracism of those changing faiths—no more inter-family ties.
By addressing these issues head-on, the Sen community is fortifying its social fabric. This evolution blends age-old customs with contemporary wisdom, promising more stable marriages and harmonious relations for generations ahead.
