Along with this, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai also transferred a subsidy of 8 crore 79 lakh rupees to 2 thousand 931 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that electricity has now become one of our basic needs, and life is unimaginable without it. Many families are unable to pay their electricity bills on time due to financial reasons, which increases the outstanding amount due to surcharge, making full payment difficult. He said that keeping in mind this problem of consumers, the state government has launched the solution scheme, which will provide them great relief. The Chief Minister said that through the solution scheme, an initiative has been taken to provide relief to low and middle-income group and agricultural consumers of the state who have not been able to pay their electricity bills for a long time. Under the scheme, a total relief of 757 crore rupees will be provided to 28 lakh 42 thousand consumers in the state. The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, electricity has been extended to about 18 thousand villages in the country after 2014, illuminating villages that have been in darkness since independence. The Chief Minister informed that about 30 thousand megawatts of electricity is being generated in the state with our own resources, and the government is committed to ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the people of the state. The Chief Minister informed that many consumers could not pay their electricity bills due to financial difficulties during the Corona period, which increased the outstanding amount. Understanding this problem of consumers, the state government has implemented the solution scheme. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the interest of people in the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana is continuously increasing in the state, and so far about 36 thousand people have joined it. The Chief Minister also said that the work done by women self-help groups as solar panel vendors is a positive initiative. The Chief Minister appealed to the citizens to save electricity and avoid unnecessary use of domestic electricity. The Chief Minister congratulated the officers of the Energy Department for the solution scheme and instructed them to connect more and more consumers to the solution scheme by organizing camps and extensive publicity. It is noteworthy that under the scheme, three categories of consumers have been determined, including inactive consumers as of March 31, 2023, active single-light connection consumers, and active non-government domestic and non-government agricultural consumers. A provision has been made for these categories of consumers to get a 100 percent discount on the surcharge amount and up to a 75 percent discount on the principal outstanding amount as an incentive for depositing electricity bills. To avail the benefit of the scheme, consumers will have to register, and a minimum of 10 percent of the outstanding amount must be paid at the time of registration. The remaining amount can be paid in installments, and no surcharge will be levied in the upcoming months. This scheme will be effective until June 30, 2026. On this occasion, Raipur North MLA Shri Purandar Mishra, Raipur Municipal Corporation Mayor Smt. Meenal Choubey, Zila Panchayat President Shri Naveen Agarwal, Secretary of Energy Department Dr. Rohit Yadav, and a large number of officers, employees, and electricity consumers were present.
