The Teeja festival, a major event for married women in Chhattisgarh, will be celebrated on August 26, 2025. The Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha begins on August 25 at 12:34 PM and concludes on August 26 at 1:54 PM, making August 26 the day of celebration. The auspicious time for worship is between 5:56 AM and 8:31 AM. This festival is known as Hartalika Teej in other states. It’s the biggest festival for married women in Chhattisgarh, dedicated to Goddess Parvati. Preparations are underway as married women return to their maternal homes. This tradition is observed in every household. Women arrive at their maternal homes to celebrate Teeja. The custom involves eating Kadu Bhat, a dish made with bitter gourd and rice, the night before the fast. This is followed by a waterless fast, lasting around 40 hours, during which women pray for their husbands’ long lives and family’s well-being. The night is filled with bhajans and kirtans. The fast concludes on Ganesh Chaturthi after worshiping Lord Ganesha and Shiva-Parvati and consuming prasad. After Teeja, women return to their marital homes. Married women create idols of Shiva and Parvati from sand or clay. They perform prayers for their husbands’ long life. The Hartalika Teej fast is believed to strengthen marital bonds and resolve issues. On the day of Hartalika Teej, devotees rise early, bathe, and set up a puja sthal. They install idols of Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesha and perform prayers. They offer sixteen adornments, fruits, flowers, and sweets to Goddess Parvati. The Hartalika Teej fast story is narrated. The fast is concluded on August 27, after the sunrise.
