An explosion has injured three workers, including two women, at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district. The incident occurred on Monday during a routine preparation for a blasting operation. While a team was laying explosives, an unexpected blast erupted, causing injuries from flying debris. The affected workers were immediately attended to at the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia and are reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries. Officials are investigating the cause of the premature detonation, with a technical fault being the primary suspicion. An internal probe is actively underway to determine the exact sequence of events and identify any contributing factors, whether related to equipment, procedures, or human oversight. Operations at the site have been temporarily suspended to ensure safety and conduct necessary evaluations. Measures to prevent future occurrences are under review by company and district authorities.
