A devastating road accident involving an official vehicle, believed to belong to an SDM, resulted in the death of a five-month pregnant woman in Bilaspur. Her husband and two children were also injured in the incident. After the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. However, local residents located the vehicle and handed it over to the police, seeking justice. The accident occurred on Raksha Bandhan, August 9th, near Turkadhi, under the Koni police station’s jurisdiction. Sumit Suryavanshi, a resident of Devri village, was on his way with his wife Hemlata, their daughter Minti (7), and son Rishu (10) to Semartal to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. Hemlata was en route to tie rakhis to her brothers when the tragedy occurred. A speeding government vehicle collided with their motorcycle from behind, resulting in Hemlata’s immediate death. Sumit and both children sustained serious injuries. The vehicle is reported to be the official vehicle of SDM Richa Chandrakar of Pendra Road. The vehicle was found by local villagers who then brought it to the police station. The police have filed an FIR and are conducting an investigation. The driver has been identified, and the authorities are promising strict action. Rishu remains hospitalized at SIMS, while his sister has been discharged. The father is also under medical care. The family and local community are expressing their anger and demanding that those responsible be held accountable with severe consequences.
