Weather Alert: Rainfall in Northeast While Plains Face Rising Heat
1 min readA diverse weather pattern is sweeping across the Indian subcontinent this week, with the IMD predicting a mix of intense heat and heavy rain. In Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region, the sun is expected to beat down harshly, pushing temperatures toward the 40-degree Celsius threshold. For the next week, residents should prepare for clear, sunny days with minimal cloud cover, as the heatwave conditions gradually expand their footprint across the northern and western states. The nights remain relatively cool for now, but the daytime heat is becoming increasingly oppressive.
While the northern plains swelter, the weather in the mountains is expected to take a turn. Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh are likely to see light showers and thunderstorms starting from April 17. These western disturbances might bring a temporary respite from the heat, but they are not expected to significantly alter the overall warming trend across the country. In Uttarakhand, the weather change is anticipated around April 17 and 18, bringing a much-needed cooling effect to the higher altitudes.
Further east, the situation is entirely different. Heavy rainfall alerts remain in place for Arunachal Pradesh, while states like Tripura and Mizoram are expected to face gusty winds and thunderstorms. The IMD has advised residents in these areas to remain cautious of lightning and potential local flooding. This localized intensity of rainfall highlights the extreme variability currently seen in the Indian climate, where one half of the country prepares for a water shortage while the other deals with heavy storms.
