Weather Update: Severe Heat in North India, Rain Alert for Bihar

The weather across the Indian subcontinent is currently a study in extremes, with severe heatwaves in the north and storm warnings in the east. The IMD has forecast high-velocity winds and thunderstorms for Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, with wind speeds potentially reaching 70 kilometers per hour on May 19 and 20. This comes as a stark contrast to the conditions in North-West India, where states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are experiencing a relentless thermal onslaught. Banda in UP recently recorded the nation’s highest temperature at 46.4 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the weather office has issued a warning for the Northeast, specifically Assam and Meghalaya, where heavy rainfall is expected toward the end of next week. Fishermen have also been advised to avoid the coastal waters of Kerala and Karnataka due to turbulent sea conditions.
