KOLKATA: The CBI on Sunday performed search operations at six areas in West Bengal, together with residences of Trinamool Congress MLA Subodh Adhikari and his brother, in reference to its probe into a coupon fund case, an official of the company mentioned.

Sleuths of the central company raided the residence and workplace of the Bijpur legislator and his brother Kamal Adhikari’s flat concurrently, the CBI official mentioned.

Kamal Adhikari is the chairman of the Kanchrapara Municipality.

The raids have been performed two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested Trinamool Congress chief Raju Sahani, who’s the municipal chairman of Halisahar close to Kolkata, in reference to a coupon fund case associated to Sunmarg Welfare Organisation.

The probe company had recovered Rs 80 lakh in money, a country-made firearm and paperwork of properties value Rs 2.75 crore from the residence of Sahani.

“During the day, the CBI officers carried out raids at four places of Halisahar and Kanchrapara in North 24 Parganas district, including the ancestral house of the Adhikari brothers and their current residences. The agency sleuths also raided the house of the MLA’s personal assistant in connection with a ponzi scam,” the official mentioned.

The MLA’s two residences in Lake Town and Paikpara areas in Kolkata have been additionally raided by the central company, he mentioned.

Speaking to reporters, Kamal Adhikari admitted that Sahani is his good friend and mentioned he didn’t find out about any monetary transaction of the arrested TMC chief.

“I don’t know about Sahani’s monetary dealings or the chit fund company. There is a political conspiracy against me and my party. The raids did not yield anything. I am ready to cooperate with the investigation,” he mentioned.

Responding to a pointed question about whether or not Sahani has helped him purchase his flat, the Kanchrapara Municipality chairman claimed that he purchased the house along with his hard-earned cash.

Veteran Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Roy alleged that the BJP is utilizing the central company to focus on his social gathering leaders and intimidate them after the saffron camp didn’t defeat the TMC within the final meeting polls.

“We have faith in the judiciary. Those who are involved in the ponzi scam will be punished and the truth that the BJP is targeting TMC leaders as part of its political vendetta will come out,” he mentioned.

BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya mentioned Roy is making such feedback because the central company has tightened the noose round “corrupt” TMC leaders.
