Composition taxpayers can now fill void statement with SMS
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), the technology provider for the GST system, has given the facility to the composition taxpayers to do zero filing of quarterly statement ie CMP-08, now through SMS. In a statement issued here today, GSTN said that if the transaction of a composition taxpayer is zero in a quarter, then he can send an SMS and file his statement.
For this, he does not need to login on the GST portal. However, the filing facility on the GST portal will continue to be available as before. According to the data released by GSTN, the total number of composition taxpayers in the country is 17.11 lakh. According to an estimate, about 20 percent (3.5 lakh) taxpayers file zero statement, who will be able to take advantage of this facility.
