A total of 48 candidates have been announced by the Congress party for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, with a clear focus on fielding women and Muslim representatives. The list, released late Thursday, features five women and four Muslim contenders, signalling a significant push for diversity. State Congress President Rajesh Ram will compete from Kutumba, and veteran leader Shakeel Ahmed is set to contest from Kadwa. Eleven incumbent MLAs have been given tickets again, covering constituencies across districts like Katihar, Vaishali, and Buxar. The party has opted for Chandan Yadav to replace Chhatrapati Yadav in Khagaria. This announcement comes after the Congress meticulously analyzed electoral factors such as caste, social composition, and past results for each seat. The party’s electoral strategy also involves navigating complex seat-sharing arrangements within the INDIA alliance and is supported by recent leadership restructuring and campaign initiatives. Voting for the initial phase of the Bihar elections will commence on November 6.
