The government has unleashed a major offensive on cyber fraudsters, yanking 39.43 lakh mobile connections and blacklisting 2.27 lakh devices along with 1.31 lakh SMS templates. This update came from Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar during a Rajya Sabha session.
Powering the purge is the DoT’s Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP), engineered to sniff out telecom abuse fueling scams and money laundering. Public involvement is key through ‘Sanchaar Saathi’, a portal and app with ‘Chakshu’ for instant reporting of shady calls or texts.
Distinguishing responses, ‘Sanchaar Saathi’ handles foiled attempts, reserving I4C for confirmed losses. Connections face disconnection only post re-verification, with transparent tracking on the portal.
From 7.7 lakh public tips, authorities executed the broad shutdowns. DIP data drives actions across sectors, from telcos to social platforms.
The FRI system’s alerts and blocks have saved more than ₹1,000 crore. WhatsApp chipped in by suspending 28 lakh suspect profiles.
This operation not only disrupts fraud networks but also builds a reporting culture, fortifying India’s defenses against digital delinquency for a safer online future.
